Rimvydas Plenys, M.D.

With great sadness, we share the devastating loss of Rimvydas Plenys, MD, an exceptional, caring and compassionate cardiologist who served our community for more than 50 years. He was a pioneer who, together with three other cardiologists, founded the first group practice in Central California to specialize in cardiology. They performed the first angioplasty in Fresno, and established a legacy of performing first-ever procedures in our community.

Dr. Plenys was proud of the practice’s commitment to “see one, do one, teach one” as it applies to innovation in the field of cardiology. With his strong work ethic and consistent pursuit of excellence, the practice developed a stellar reputation in its formative years, which continues to this day.

Dr. Plenys graduated from University of Illinois School of Medicine, Chicago before joining the United States Army in 1966, serving our nation as a Green Beret during the Viet Nam war. He completed his Residency and Cardiology Fellowship at Valley Medical Center, and was the first cardiology fellow to graduate from the program.

Dr. Plenys was recognized as steadfast and dedicated for his unwavering commitment to patients and their families. His patients and colleagues knew him as a highly skilled and dedicated cardiologist who touched many lives in a positive and loving way.

Please join us in praying for this precious family and those who are heartbroken by this loss. We especially think of Pamela Plenys, who shared a lifetime of love, joy and happiness as Dr. Plenys’ wife and best friend, son Mark and daughter Samantha. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
